In the area of Puget Sound there are a huge number of islands, all of which are inhabited and many are urbanized. They are linked to the mainland via huge car/passenger ferries and judging by the amount of traffic, many people commute to work each day in their cars from the islands and it would appear vice versa. The bottom photo is of Seattle city centre from Brainbridge Island and the top photo is looking back over Bainbridge Island towards the Olympia mountains to the west.
