Only in California
23 September 2016 | King Harbor, Redondo Beach, L.A. California, USA
We had intended to spend a few more days in the Channel Islands however the weather forecast was predicting 35 knots and almost all the anchorages on the islands are only tenable in good weather so we made our way into King Harbor, Redondo Beach, Los Angeles a little earlier than intended. There is always jobs to attend to and we were to pick up my sister Susan who was joining us for a couple of weeks. The anchorage was excellent as well as being convenient to the beach and shops. The harbor itself isn't huge but is a very good area for sailing dinghies, kayaks and SUPs. What one might expect from L.A. - exercise classes on SUPs and people taking their dogs for an outing on the water. I find it difficult to understand putting life jackets on animals that swim perfectly well unaided ??? Another mystery of western society and fashion that confuses my brain.... And as for the weather : - some smog and haze but the sky is cloudless day after day and one day we had an exceptionally and unseasonally hot one at 40oC (104oF) however it was a dry heat and coming from Darwin we found it not particularly uncomfortable. I even went for a ride on my bicycle !
