Shark Fishermen - Magdalena Bay, Mexico

02 December 2016 | Bahia Magdalena, Baja Mexico
Here the fishermen remove their boats each day upon their return from fishing in a very unusual way. They line their pungas up from a 100 metres out to sea and drive them at full speed towards the beach. At the last moment, and with deft skill, they stall and tilt the outboard and the fibreglass boat slides out of the water and come to rest several metres from the sea. Unfortunately we failed to ask how they relaunched the boats the following morning, however I did express my concern that such treatment would require constant maintenance as the keels were only fibreglass. I was assured that repair work was only required once a year.
