Glasses at Isla Isabela
06 March 2017 | Isla Isobela, Pacific coast, Mexico
The next stop after Mazatlan for us was Isla Isobela, 88 miles (150kms) to the south and around 17 nm off the coast with an anchorage only tenable in reasonable northerly weather. We had excellent Northerly wind of 18-22 knots up until 10 miles out when it died....so we can't complain. There was some surge in the anchorage but nothing unbearable. The inhabitants were limited to fishermen who had set up semi-permanent camps, a very low key tourist camping operation and a long established scientific research camp that studied the Frigates and Blue-Footed Boobies that nested on the island.
We spoke with a couple of the local fishermen and told them that we were members of the Lions Club of Australia Recycle For Sight Program and if anybody thought they might need spectacles then we would return in the afternoon and test people's eyesight and provide glasses without any cost. Our offer as per usual was very enthusiastically received so we later returned and tested everyone's eyesight and provided 23 pairs of spectacles.
