Not something you see every day

07 March 2017 | San Blas, Narayit, Mexico
The next stop was the town of San Blas, 40 miles to the south east. As per usual, we did what most sailors don't do. Instead of anchoring 3 miles to the east of the town in an easy to access anchorage we negotiated the bar-protected entrance to the town harbour itself. Conditions were reasonable and the minimum depth of water at the entrance was no less than 3.5 metres. Once inside the depth increased briefly but settled on 4-5 metres and anchored in 4 metres just outside the marina. San Blas has a population of 40,000 people
but most are living a very basic and simple lifestyle so the infrastructure, business centre are very humble indeeed, more like a very big village than a small city. Many of the Mexican cities we have so far seen seem to be modelled in a similar fashion. There were a few shops , 3 ATM's, plenty of market stalls but no large supermarket.

Frances snapped this photo of a rather extraordinary sight of a guy conveying a horse in his small fishing boat. I doubt whether this is a common practice as no doubt it is fraught with not insignificant risk but suprizingly our friends John and Becca on Haycon several weeks earlier took a photo of the same spectacles !
