Mon Repos 2016

We were desperate to move as the strong westerly wind was supposed to back to SW next day and we would be unable to make our way in desired direction of Kiel and Kiel Canal at all. The forecast was W 5-6 gusting; we prepared three different options as a destination on the south shore - and we decided to move (45-60nm).
It was a cracking sailing for the first 2 hours (we were still sheltered by the land) but the wind became somehow stronger, gusting constantly force 7 and more..... So slowly I got second thoughts how it will be close to the cape and later on the open sea....It came worse than expected as we also needed to pass a long patch of shallows (5nm with 5-10m) and we were confronted there with conditions "wind against current" - waves took a shape of pyramids with height more than 2m.
I tried to convince Waldemar to turn back but he stayed firm "we carry on". So now in this conditions we were about to pass a TSS which is a sort of highway on the sea for ships. And they came in numbers! We needed to give them way..... The Mon Repos was crushing into coming waves and the bow was many times under water up to spray hood....
Than suddenly we were on the other side .... Waves were still quite high but more regular, hurray! We were unable to make any way westwards and finally decided to go to Warnemuende where we arrived after 9 hours on the sea. We just moored to the first free hammerhead pontoon (which in theory was reserved for multihulls).
We learned later that the Falster's south cape is infamous for its bad sea conditions.
