Starboard again. On a perfect afternoon, offshore of Marco Island, Moonbeam is out testing new sails. Starboard and port, on the wind, on a reach and downwind. Made by the loft, Super Sailmakers of Ft. Lauderdale, they replace original, now 9-year-old sails. In anticipation for the year-long or maybe longer Pacific Circuit, away from familiar sail shops, and expected long time downwind sailing, decisions were for new sails and fabric of conventional Dacron, heavy duty.
These new ones performed well this Sunday, in an east wind of 17-25 kts. Putting the sails through the paces with Capt. Ken is sailmaker Peter Grim.
Note that the main now carries the Moonbeam logo.
