TECHNOLOGY TRUMPS.....

In a previous blog about charging our devices, I alluded to using my phone as a translator but, in the interest of brevity (yeah...rare for me), I gave that aspect of the phone short-shrift. Google translate is, in fact, invaluable....particularly in countries like Indonesia (last summer), and Greece and Croatia this year. Being boat-people, we have odd needs...like white vinegar, electric starters, etc. It's amazing. I enter the word or phrase into Google Translate and...poof! It emerges...and I show my phone to the shopkeeper...and she takes me to the aisle...or lets me know they don't have it. On my list of items which are endangered species, I think foreign language dictionaries are making their way onto it. Google translate also has microphone and camera features. I haven't tried the microphone yet since, even the American Airlines phone site hasn't figured out my NY accent. I haven't tried the camera feature, but I will. Apparently, one can take a pic of some words, and the app will translate it. There are two other cool features. By touching an icon, you can switch the order...like English to Croatian or vice versa. Also, it retains the list of prior words...so if you don't find white vinegar at the first shop, you can easily go back in the next shop. Yes...I LOVE TECHNOLOGY!!!!
