GARBAGE IN...GARBAGE OUT

If you've been following the blog, you may remember my epiphany of several days ago about using TripAdvisor to decide on restaurants and to get better service. Today, Chuck, Jean, Ken and I were walking along the quay, trying to decide on a restaurant for lunch. As usual, attractive young men and women stand outside each place, inviting us in and showing us their menus. As Ken and I were listening to one young lady, Chuck and Jean were ahead of us, and found a place with the TripAdvisor 'Certificate of excellence'. They won, and we were seated there and we ordered our meals. While we waited for our food, I decided to actually read the reviews. The very first one, from 2 days ago said they were served the worst squid, ever. The next two earlier reviews were not much better. Our food was OK. As we were leaving the restaurant, I looked up and saw that I was reading the reviews of the restaurant next door....the only name I could see on the umbrellas. So much for research.
After lunch, we continued our exploration of Trogir, led by our able kemosabe ('trusted scout' for those of you who didn't watch The Lone Ranger) Chuck, armed with our Eyewitness Travel Guidebook. (More about travel guides in a future blog.) We were in search of the Convent of St Nicholas. Not to be outdone by me, Chuck led us to a place, we paid our entry kunas, and then wandered around inside, making sense of the info from the guidebook and the websites on my phone and making all of the pieces of info fit. (You may know where this is going...) As we left, the young lady at the entry gate advised us that this was NOT the Convent of St Nicholas. We were in the wrong place. Getting old is not for sissies!
Oh, yes. In the interest of full disclosure....the restaurant with the TripAdvisor certificate was rated......(drum roll)...25 out of 60 restaurants in Trogir, go figure.
