EPIPHANIES

As you can see, we had a crew changeover. Chuck and Jean left on Thursday, and Phil and Leigh arrived on Friday. They were none the worse for wear, but for some travel trauma in Frankfurt due to a missed connection, gratis of Air Canada. It seemed prudent to have a chill-out day on Saturday, to shed off some jet lag. We spent the day wandering through the old city of Trogir.
Since that doesn't lend itself to a blog entry, I'll give you some random, idle musings.
Epiphany #1: Captain Ken became Captain Cook last night, and I, as his sous-chef, got the chore of digging deep down into the trenches to locate various ingredients. In doing so, I had that intermittent thought that we really need to (again) put the older ingredients on top so we use them first. Normally, when we go for a big provisioning, by the time we get back to Moonbeam, we just lazily put the newest ingredients on top...and then use them first....just like when I put my clean laundry on top in my drawer, and consequently, keep wearing the same stuff over and over. (And, I bet you thought I didn't have any other clothes!!!!) But I digress, Back to the aforementioned ingredients: without wearing glasses, it was hard to find the 'use by' dates (and I might not want to see them, anyway.) My epiphany: all I had to do was look at which country they were purchased in. Australia....Indonesia: 2014. Turkey, Greece, Croatia: 2015. Tahiti, Fiji, Tonga...2013. (Fortunately, there were few items dating back that far. That was easy.
Epiphany #2: As long as I was in organizing mode, I started thinking about the beer cabinet. Of course, all of the beer on top is from Croatia. Digging down, I found some real treasures: Bintang: Indonesia 2014....Leo: Thailand early 2015...Fix, Fes and Mythos: Greece 2015 and...finally, the newest: Ozujsko (don't even try to pronounce it): Croatia. It was a beer aficionados' dream. I did expect to find a few stragglers from the US of A back to early 2013, but there was no Yuengling, Rolling Rock or Blue Moon to be found. (In case you're wondering, we did a taste test and the 2014 Bintang is just fine.)
Epiphany #3: While we have decent shower facilities on Moonbeam, we always take the opportunity of showering when we're docked at a marina. The levels are not consistent; we've been at ACI marinas....with Dubrovnik being outstanding, and Trogir being OK but not great. The Achilles heel was the shower room. The shower head was fine; the room was clean but....there were only 2 hooks and no bench. It was difficult to figure out how to hang dirty clothes, clean clothes, the ditty bag, the towel...but...worst of all was that the hooks were 6 feet high on the wall. Here is my epiphany: they were mounted by a 6'9" carpenter. For all of the time I've been here, I've been conscious of the height of the Croatian people. They are tall...very, very tall. The majority of the boys and men are easily over 6 feet, and many are 6'7 or taller, (Yes, Edie...you would hate it here.) and, many of the the woman are well over 5'8". So...therein lies the explanation for the high in the sky shower hooks.
