I'VE GOT TO BE ME

LIL

We were going to do our pre-departure provisioning when we were at the mall on Saturday, but then the Captain decided to get his pre-departure massage...and we decided it would be better to do the shopping on Sunday, so the produce would be fresher. Ken did mutter something under his 'stache' as to whether or not this giant, wonderful supermarket would be open on Sunday.....but then let the thought go. Now, anyone who knows me should know that under every set of circumstances, I would have walked over to the store and checked their schedule. Why I did not....I can't imagine....but I did not. Somewhere rolling in my head was that we're in Barcelona, not Timbuktu...and this is a huge store...not some neighborhood bodega.
Sunday, we went over to the mall for our C and C (capuccino and croissant), Mach 1 free wifi....and...shopping. I'm sure you've already figured out that the supermarket was dead as a doornail (what does that mean?) with a sign clearly posting its hours...and none on Sunday.
On to plan B: we looked up on google 'supermarkets near me open on Sunday', and this is where it gets a little fuzzy. We originally thought we saw a Carrefours listed...but then couldn't find the listing. We took a taxi over and...it was just as dead. The taxi driver waited while I went over to check it out close and personal and...it was what it was. On to Plan C: we checked out Google again; this time in between all of the listings which showed 'closed today' there was one in the center of town which showed 'abierto (open) today 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM'. I put that in the category of unequivocal. The taxi driver took us there and.... (Drum roll) it was even deader than a doornail, if that's possible. So...to find the lemonade in these lemons, we did get a €30 tour of the closed supermarkets of Barcelona...and as our friend, Edie, says....what else did we have to do?
So, there are no mistakes...just lessons to be learned. What did I learn today? Being a little OCD is not a bad thing...and...even google can have a bad day.
So...never to leave a blog on a low note, it us now Monday, we did our provisioning...it's all good...and here is a pic of the supermercado abierto (open supermarket). YAY!
