A MOMENTOUS DAY FOR MOONBEAM
01 October 2015 | SAILING FROM AGUADULCE TO PUERTA DE LA MONA, ESPAÑA
LIL
The most faithful of Moonbeamers will, no doubt, have noticed that there was no update yesterday. Even I, believe it or not, had nothing to write about.
But today? That is another story. If you closely study the pic above, you will observe that Moonbeam achieved a milestone: She reached the 50,000 nautical mile mark...in her almost 12 years of life. This is the equivalent of more that twice around the world at the equator...although, in fact, she has only actually gone 3/4 of the way around...and then we need to subtract the distance when she travelled atop a cargo ship going from Thailand to Turkey. That said, she's been amazing...and has weathered the storms, the crew, the great times and less than great times; she had put up with all of us, never complained, and has taught us a thing or two about sailing...and about life. If she were a blogger, no doubt she would have plenty to say in her blog updates.
We haven't raised our glasses to her yet (we're still under sail) but you can be sure we will tonight when we are safely at anchor. We'll be toasting su pasado, su presente y su futuro....and many more wonderful adventures.
