Friday is my last day at work. As of next week, I am retired. It's not like I will be relaxing. I will be working 60+ hours a week on getting the boat ready for our May departure. That's when I can relax.
The big project on the boat right now is replacing the chain plates. Chain plates are what the wires that hold up the mast attach to.. very important! Most rigging failures are related to chain plates. Unfortunately, we had to rip out much of the cabinetry to get to them. The picture above shows one of the chain plates just after we removed the cabinet.
When we removed the old chain plates about 30% of the bolts just broke off when we touched them with a wrench. They had cracked and failed due to corrosion from water leaks. It had been a hard decision to rip out the cabinets but the failed bolts proved that it was the right thing to do. I'm pretty sure it will all go back together but Donna is not yet convinced.
