Moored in Cuttyhunk
18 June 2013 | Cuttyhunk, Massachusetts
Donna
Today was mostly a motoring day. We tried sailing but we weren’t really moving very fast so we went back to using the engine. It was an easy enough day at sea, there weren’t really many waves. We were headed into Buzzards Bay in Massachusetts. The plan was to continue straight through the Cape Cod Canal and into Provincetown but Bill is always thinking of other alternatives. He was considering going to Woods Hole but instead we decided on Cuttyhunk. It’s one of those places we wanted to stop at last summer but didn’t have time. It certainly would get us to stop moving a lot sooner. Although you can anchor in Cuttyhunk we decided to take a mooring. We were lucky to come in when there wasn’t much wind. We didn’t have much trouble picking up the mooring at all. Right now it is very windy and it would have been a different story. Above is a picture of the mooring field. We have not ever seen mooring balls like this you need to grab one and thread your own line through the hole on top and secure your boat with your line. The moorings are very close together but apparently we aren’t in season now or this place would be a lot fuller.
Even though the wind had picked up, and it is fairly chilly outside we managed to get our dinghy re-inflated. We always deflate it and roll it up and bring it below when we are doing an ocean passage. We bought a new dinghy pump that does a lot better getting the dinghy up to the right air pressure. We decided to take the dinghy around the mooring field for a spin. We noticed the boat behind us also had an Annapolis hailing port so we stopped to say hello. We were invited on board and spent some time talking to the very nice couple on board.
We will probably spend some time hiking in Cuttyhunk tomorrow and possibly spend another night on the mooring before heading out to Provincetown. Right now we are looking for more than three hours in a row asleep in bed!
