We spent yesterday just hanging out and relaxing a bit on the boat. We took the dinghy over to Warren State Park right next to where we were anchored and went on a little hike. We didn’t bring our big backpack this time, only the camera and some water. That is always a mistake. The backpack has our Advil and our bug spray in it. Two very important items, especially yesterday – Bill really needed the bug spray, he was getting eaten alive. Needless to say it was a very unpleasant hike and we got back to the boat as quickly as we could. Later in the afternoon the wind started to really blow. It got up to twenty seven knots but we were well anchored so there was no problem.
Today was very windy too but we were ready to move on. We were leaving our anchorage and Bill was below getting something. I saw a lobster pot in front of me and was working on avoiding it. I thought I had missed it when I moved back over towards my course when we both heard the loudest sound we’ve ever heard coming from below Moonraker. Bill was sure I had hit some rocks. I was sure I had hit the lobster pot. I looked behind me and saw that I had totally obliterated the lobster buoy I was trying to miss. We were lucky though, the line did not get stuck on the prop. Our biggest problem was that Bill had thrown his glasses when he heard me hit and ran up to find out what was going on. It took a while to find them again.
After we got over that we put up the mizzen, the jib and the staysail and had one of the best sails we’ve had this trip. With just those three sails we were going eight knots at some points. The picture above is the scenery we had going down the Penobscot Bay. We sailed into Rockland harbor and I think we are anchored almost exactly where we were the last time. We are here to do some laundry and reprovisioning. Rockland is the home of our new favorite Laundromat! We are saving that for tomorrow though. This afternoon we just took a walk and bought some bread. We also watched them load the ferry. Apparently I really enjoy watching ferries load, I never knew…
