Waiting for Weather in Ft. Lauderdale
11 December 2013 | Lake Sylvia, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
Donna
We left Boca Raton at 6:30am yesterday morning. I saw five feet on the depth finder on the way out of the anchorage. That is about an inch deeper than the bottom of our boat so we were lucky to get out without running aground. We only had a couple of bridges to go through before we got to Lake Sylvia where we will anchor until we have the right weather to cross over to the Bahamas. We spent ten days here last year so we are very familiar with the surroundings.
We also have a friend who lives in town, on the water. We dinghyed over to her house last night and went out for dinner with her. Today she lent us her car so we could do the few errands that are easier by car here. Bill and I decided it would be easier to do our last provisioning without a car though. Finding a place to leave your dinghy when you go to shore is very difficult here. The one place that we know of is the Southport Raw Bar which is right across the street from the supermarket and close to many other stores and restaurants. They charge ten dollars to leave your dinghy there but they do what is called Dock and Dine. You can use the ten dollars to buy food in the restaurant. Pretty smart on their part, you can manage to just spend ten dollars, but I am sure most people spend more. We sure do!
The picture above is our view tonight as the sun was setting. It’s very nice here but we are ready to get to the Bahamas. Right now it looks like Sunday is the day. We’ll have to hope it continues to look good as the week goes on.
