Watching Football in Black Point
12 January 2014 | Black Point Settlement, Exumas, Bahamas
Donna
Well we did end up spending most of the last two days watching football. There were only two real options of where to watch it since in this spot we can't get any American channels with our TV antenna. We could go to the loud cruisers bar, where apparently everyone else went, or we could go to Lorraine's Café which, as you can see in the picture above, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. We don't feel too bad though, Lorraine made some money from us. She would have made more if we were drinkers. People were coming in all afternoon and getting beers and sodas from the case in the back corner. We watched all of two of the NFL playoff games and most of a third game. From time to time some Bahamian men watched with us and for both of the late afternoon games some other cruisers came and joined us for dinner.
Tonight Lorraine did a barbecue for dinner. She had planned to do it but when she saw a lot of the boats had left this morning she didn't really advertise it. A boat came in today that had been to one of Lorraine's barbecues in the past and they called on the VHF to ask if she was having one tonight. I think if they hadn't asked, Lorraine would not have had it, but she said she would. We were at one last year and it was packed and crazy. She said it started at 5:30pm but there was no food at all until 7:30pm. This year it looked like it would just be six of us. Five of us were really into the football game. Then two other guys came in and one of them was more into the game than the five of us put together so that really helped the atmosphere. Lorraine said the barbecue started at 6:00pm and at 7:00pm she was waiting for a couple other cruisers who had called and were coming in. We ate shortly after that and there was so much food. It was really good and it didn't hurt that the team we were all rooting for won the game!
Tomorrow we head just a little further south to Little Farmers Cay. There is supposed to be a cave there that we can explore. Bill has been looking forward to it since we had to scrap our plans to go there last year.
