Moonraker

This blog chronicles the adventures of the sailing vessel Moonraker. We just finished the second year of our cruising life. We explored the US East Coast from Maine to Florida, the Bahamas, Haiti, PR, and the Virgin Islands.

Bermuda Bound - Day 2

17 May 2014 | 235 miles north of BVI
Bill
Things are definitely improving. Donna is feeling much better. We had a nice dinner last night of homemade Macaroni & Cheese with Hot Dogs. Donna slaved in the galley for about 10 minutes to make it. We have 12 homemade dinners that we froze and then sealed with our FoodSaver vacuum sealer. We just take it out of the refrigerator, put it in the pressure cooker, and cook for five minutes. Great meal!

The winds have been fairly steady, always out of the east. The wind speed has gone up and down but has averaged between 12 and 16 knots since we left the BVI. We are now sailing with all our sails upÂ... main, mizzen, jib, and staysail. The motion is still a bit uncomfortable but definitely better. I think itÂ's mostly us getting used to it rather than conditions improving. However, we had several hours yesterday afternoon and evening where the winds slowed to about 10 knots and the seas were very flat. It was downright pleasant!

We have seen a few ships way off in the distance but have not seen any of the other boats that are taking part in the rally. We all talk on the radio twice a day and give our positions to the net controller.

Everything is going fine. We are still quite exhausted but that's getting better too. Everyone we have talked to has said things get better after about three days at sea. We'll see..

We are 235 miles north of BVI with 600 miles to go to Bermuda.

About:
This blog will record our adventures as we continue our new cruising life. This summer (2013) we plan to head north and explore the coasts of Maine and Nova Scotia. We will return to Annapolis in the fall for the SSCA GAM and then head south on the ICW to Florida. [...]
Extra:
Moonraker was built in 1986 and had two owners before we bought her in 2005. After spending nearly two years on the hard making all the repairs and improvements that I had promised Donna we wouldn’t have to do if we bought her, we were finally ready to go sailing. For the next several years we [...]
