Decided to get a hire car for a few days. Simple you would think in a town of 180,000 people - all the big boys are here, well, it took phone calls to 6 different companies before I found one that was available. Then it was a $25 taxi ride to the airport to collect it.
Vicki and Rob where loaded in and we were off for "Brief look at Townsville" before they head home on Wednesday. First stop was the top of Castle Hill to look at the views.
It was a great clear day with good views to Magnetic Island.
Then showed them the Casino and Port area followed by a 40 km loop around the suburbs for an impression of the size of the place. We stopped at the River-way Lagoons complex with its Swimming Pools, Gallery and river walks.
The river was full of turtles.
Then we headed into the city for some Lunch at a cafe in the City Lane complex.
After lunch, it was up to the old fort at Kissing Point for a look around. Pictured here at the US Air Force memorial.
This was also the site of the Jezzine Army barracks up until a few years ago.
After that, it was back to the boat to drop the tour group off and take Audra and Steve to the Surgery for the 5th operation on his leg. After that was done, helped put the rather drugged up ang groggy Steve on his boat.
On my return, found the marina had dropped of a collapsible waterproof bucket full of beers as a thank you to me, cheers!
Then we headed out for a meal on the Strand at CBar
A very busy day all in all yesterday. Today Steve goes back to the doctors at 0850, then Vicki and Rob to the airport at 1015 so they can head home after spending 10 days with us (pity Rob has not been 100% well during the visit). That is the end of the visitors for a while.
Need to start to get a bit of a plan together to move further North. Meanwhile I guess this afternoon will be a bit of shopping to replenish some dwindling supplies while we have the car.
