The Cornish Cats Who Went to Sea (or didn’t actually)
11 July 2009 | Falmouth, UK
Nevil / Rain & Gales
Day 1 - Saturday 11th July 2009
After building our sailing experience with our own Morwenna in the very benign conditions of Dubai, I decided that it would be a good idea to extend our repertoire by taking a week's charter back home in Cornwall. After a little bit of persuasion/selling the idea, we booked I-Go, a Bavaria30 from Cornish Cruising based in Falmouth, only 20 miles from our UK home. As the start of the adventure has neared there has been a deal of planning and a great deal of scanning of the weather forecasts.
Think of July in Cornwall - the fields are losing their Spring greens and turning the darker shade of Summer green. The days are long, the weather is warm. Clouds float in splendid isolation across a cornflower blue sky... It's been chucking it down continuously for the past eight hours or more and the nearest to sailing we have come is Rachel reading Practical Boat Owner magazine. The boat is rocking as a near gale howls over the top of the most sheltered marina in the area and the forecast for tomorrow isn't much better.
Our plan for a gentle shake down cruise to Helford Passage has sunk without trace. I hope things will get better.
