Woke reasonably early but had a slow start including a full cooked breakfast at the marina. Weather much improved on yesterday - dry with scattered cloud and W f4 or so.
1150 Left Falmouth Marina. Tricky manoeuvre to get out of corner berth but neatly done by the crew. Luke took the helm and steered us down the channel towards the Carrick Roads.
1200 50°09.804'N 5°04.404'W off Flushing.
1225 set sails with Reef 1 in the main and about 50% of the genoa. Headed off down the Roads, passing to the east of Black Rock. Rachel helmed for a while but she was not comfortable so I took the wheel.
1300 50°06.353'N 5°00.696'W 2NM S of St Antony's Head. Wind 12kt WSW. Maintaining 5-6kt close hauled. I-Go comfortable in the water. Seems to be better on starboard tack than port but no obvious reason.
1400 50°06.401'N 5°04.297'W ½ NM east of Rosemullion Head.
1410 Fishing line overboard - Robert dropped mackerel line which provided an impromptu MOB drill. Successfully recovered reel but line had snapped. Dropped sails and headed into the river.
1500 50°05.874'N 5°07.438'W 150m north of Bosahan Pt, Helford
Spent ages looking for the correct mooring - found it on the third run through.
1525 50°05.853'N 5°08.006'W mooring 320, Helford River.
Launched the inflatable and explored first the Helford side of the river (inc a short walk through the village) and then the Helford Passage side (inc. a pint at the Ferry Inn.) Outboard a bit temperamental on the way back to the mooring.
2015 After a pizza supper we discovered that the water tank was empty. Cornish Cruising had assured us that despite the tank gauge reading slightly less than half, it really was full - it was just an idiosyncrasy of the boat. I had thought about checking it but decided that it must be full if they said it was - lesson learned! Checked the SW Cruising Companion and water is available at the Helford River SC pontoon. Although this dries, HW was at 2115 so we decided to go and fill up. Easy approach and mooring on pontoon head. Checked with club members that there was no charge for water. It took ages to fill the 150ltr tank - it really had been totally empty. Tank gauge now reads full...
