Propogation challenge

We seem to be in a blind spot for HF (Ham radio) propogation, so updates via the radio waves is not happening. We will try and connect when we get to town in Taiohae - maybe even connect via sailblogs and upload some holiday snaps! We are currently in so-called Daniel's Bay on Nuku Hiva, after having by-passed Ua Pou. Despite its spectacular geography, the anchorage was rather rolly, the town unappealing, and the bay mostly taken up with dredging operations. Daniel's Bay is a popular anchorage, with spectacular cliffs (I suspect we are actually inside a crater) and a great walk to a waterfall - although being a dry season, it was more of a water trickle! Most of the trail was on a formed stone road, but none of the guide books reference its history. Being a good 3 miles long, clearly the bay supported a significant population in older times, and had surplus manpower to create such a structure. I would also speculated that the road ends at a temple site, judging by the stone platforms etc. We are now crossing paths with the European fleet - distinguishable by the profusion of nicer boats (lots of Swans and Halberg-Rassys) crewed by men in speedos. The age of the cruising population has noticeably declined also - the retirees of Mexico have been replaced by a younger, more agile crowd!
