Above: Tug and Barge between the lock and bridge.. coming and going!
We arrived in Great Bridge after leaving Norfolk on 1/8. At Great Bridge we tied up at a free bulkhead where we could conveniently walk to a strip mall, do laundry and shop. We also refilled our nearly dry water tanks and took on some fuel at the Atlantic Yacht Basin boatyard. This is a world class operation from the standpoint of boat maintenance and restoration. Currently they maintain and house the "Sequoia" a Trumpy Yacht that served several Presidents on the Potomac including FDR. It is let out in Charter for $3000/hr with a 4 hour minimum. Does not include fuel, food or drink! According to the staff at AYB it is near fully booked for next summer.
After two days at Great Bridge we continued south to an anchorage on Broad Creek to wait for good conditions to cross the Albemarle Sound. We tried yesterday 1/15 but once entering the actual waters of the Sound, the westerly winds 15-20 knots were too much. Not dangerous.. just uncomfortable, so we returned to the protection of Broad Creek. We plan to try again this AM winds are to be out of the north.
Dave Irwin is in Washington, NC we are looking to go up to Washington for a visit.
Dave Hyman. left Sunday morning by car for Florida... talked to him today.. he arrived in St Augustine last Monday night.. of course.
