About: |
Dave Curtis fulfilled his lifelong dream of being a sailor, when he found a first mate willing to adventure. Krow has never sailed, and, pelican like, dove head first in. They took navigation, seamanship, radio operator, diesel mechanic, diving, and getting as much hands on as they could cram in. [...]
Why they waited till their fifties to start this adventure? Took that long to be crazy enough.
They planned to go "everywhere".
In December 2011 Kato the Seal Point Siamese came as a Christmas gift.
Turns out Kato loves sailing.
UPDATE
We departed June 28th for the first leg of our world journey, Lake Ontario, Waupoos Marina to Lewisport Newfoundland.
2015 Left Lewisporte and headed down the other side of the big rock. Destination Sydney NS.
Sadly. When we returned to Ontario after sailing around Newfoundland, Captain Dave was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma, a brutal, fatal cancer caused by asbestos exposure. He fought so hard for three years, 18 hour operation, 9 months of brutal chemo, immunotherapy drug trial in Toronto, Olaparib drug trial in Maryland... Dave died November 14th 2018, at home surrounded by those who loved him dearly, including Kato.
Mystical will be sold to some very lucky sailors!

Mysti-Cal is a good solid boat that we both loved. So much room inside, great live aboard with amazing storage and the view from the raised salon makes anchoring a beautiful thing!
! She feels like home no matter where she is. We had a big project getting her back into the shape she should be, [...]
and the last surveyor we used before we set out for Newfoundland stated that she is in better shape now than bran new with all the work and upgrades we achieved. Dave painstakingly fixed her bottom, slight blistering, not too bad, but we sand blasted her and dried her out, digging out blisters before repairing every blister we found and give her a new, non-toxic paint job. A perfect job that many came to admire. We sorted out the electrical, new batteries, solar and wind generator added, a custom designed bimini, life raft, epirb, AIS, all the essentials and more for ocean cruising. We installed a new music system, auto pilot, new stainless steel diesel tanks, new macerator, holding tank and toilet. She has new sails and rigging, a re-done mast, new chart plotter and other odds and ends. Lots of loving work. Dave always said b o a t, is an acronym for "bring on another thousand".
But she was worth it. We had wanted to continue our world sail, but Dave was diagnosed with Mesothelioma upon return from Newfoundland, an asbestos caused fatal cancer. he died three years later, and without her captain, firstmate and seafaring cat are lost at sea.
Mystical is for sale. She is in North Sydney Nova Scotia waiting for her hew sailors to appear.
