Trouble Brewing

30 November 2017
Plans for the end game.
At the moment our plan is to go sailing to Roatan and the Bay Islands around Honduras. All 3 of the kids have been there and highly recommend it to us! Come January we will fly home and settle in Penticton. In 2019 after those horrid Northers are done, we would come back here and sail Namaste north to Houston or maybe Florida. That seems such a long way off. And then maybe it could be sold before then. We will see!

Update 12/3/2017
So political upheaval in Honduras eh? Hmmmm…. We are watching the developments carefully. We have always been aware of pirate activity off the coast of Mainland Honduras. As recently as 3 weeks ago a cruiser ran into pirates of Mosquito Cay who boarded him and for 2 hours stripped his boat. He had gotten too close to the mainland coast and was in range for the pirates small launchas. There we 20 of them. Pretty scary but they did not hurt him. He has carried on to El Salvador to re equip his boat. We can get to Roatan without coming close to the mainland as it is one of several islands about 100 miles off the coast. This latest political upheaval in the country may in fact scupper our plans. The banks are currently closed down which is a game changer for us if we have access to their currency.Maybe we need to go back to Belize and hang out there. We wait.

I am busy researching airline reservations for our trip home. Can’t seem to snag a $200 fare as I did last time! Jan 16 is looking like the date we will land in Canada. Yeah!!!

We went with the Offshore Cruisers Club on a bus tour to Tikal. We stayed in El Renete a lovely hotel 40 mins from Tikal. There are many ruins excavated but the majority of them remain covered in vegetation. The major temples are accessible and we walked up many of them and had wonderful vistas from the tops. There were howlers and squirrel monkeys in the trees but mostly we saw coatis - a raccoon like animal scurrying around. We had seen them also in Panajachel. The group we went with were lots of fun and we got to know some quite well like Jean and Bent from Denmark - sailing on a 57 foot cat and heading to Australia.
