Today is Carole`s birthday! Quepos
14 January 2013
Carole
Carole wanted to be near a town for her birthday so she could have good internet and be able to get her e-cards, facebook entries and skype. It was decided that Quepos was our destination. We arrived in the anchorage at 1pm, so still lots of time to go ashore and have a birthday dinner for Carole. We found a great little restaurant, most of the meals were good including Carole`s but the Filet Mignon dinner that Doreen and Ken ordered ended up not being very good at all. The restaurant surprised Carole with a Tequila shot for her birthday, she did not down it all at once but did get it down after a couple of swigs, salt, lime and all! You should have seen her face!!
On our way back to the boat it poured with rain and we were soaked once the Panga Taxi got us back to our boats. We were supposed to go to August Moon for dessert and were wondering if we could make it without getting soaked again. The rain, thankfully stopped so off we went to Doreen & Russ`s boat, she had baked me a wonderful birthday cake with candles and all, it was a wonderful surprise. I got to open my presents, a pair of pyjamas from Russ and Doreen and a pearl necklace from Fran and Jean-Guy, thanks so much you guys. Ken bought me a really nice wooden lazy susan for our dining room table, the design is all inlaid with native woods from Costa Rica, it is beautiful!
We did manage to sleep that night even though the anchorage was very rolly.
The next morning when we left, there was a `Tall Ship`in the anchorage and we also saw another Canadian Sailboat anchored not far away from us. We wandered by them on our way out, the boat name is ESCAPE and it is a Calgary boat. It was one of the new 50ft Hunters and they had bought it from Specialty Yachts, their plan is to go to French Polynesia. Hopefully we will get a chance to chat with them in Golfito if they are there when we arrive in a few days.
