Ramadan, Day 1

This is taken very seriously. My bartender is a smoker – but at Ramadan fluids, food and cigarettes are not allowed from sunrise to sunset. They say the first day is the worst. He keeps looking out the window as the day wanes.
For me it is so simple. For the next week, while Necessity remains on the hard waiting patiently for her new cutlass bearing, I rise early and get to the yard to work on board until 2 pm when the yard closes. Another Ramadan thing, sort of holiday mode. Shorter work days and big gatherings at night with well deserved feasting! Today I got to stay until four and got most of the big 1/0 wires run for the new windlass. Kind of like wrestling when dealing with wire that thick. And then head back to the well appointed hotel for a dip in the pool, with a cold one or three and a nice meal. The spreads have been great with lots of fresh salads, delicious black olive and capers. Tonight it is couscous and Brik with Egg.
