Split Sailing Club – Spinut Yacht Harbour
Had a leisurely morning – it was 13C - too cold to get moving. We used the fireplace on board for the first time since Lake Superior. It was a great asset to have!
Finally worked our way into town and enjoyed a pizza at one of the recommended restaurants on our way. The day was sunny (it’s always sunny) and warm if you stayed out of the wind. We did the Cathedral and Brian climbed the 12th century 60 meter clock tower for some great panoramas even though he admitted being queasy on the exposed metal stairs with a strong wind blowing through. Next it was the Chapel of Jupiter and a walk through the rest of the upper floors of the Diocletian Palace. It must have been quite a place! We finally located the Maritime Museum in an old fortress some distance away but it appeared closed. Coming back down the hill we checked out the train station (very low key) and the adjacent bus station and ferry dock. We are still thinking about a bus to Dobrovnik (almost 4 hours each way now) but we would have to go Sunday and come back Monday. We will see as we do have to move Necessity to another slip after a charter boat vacates.
We located an out of the way bar which caught the sun’s last rays for a beer then headed home feeling as though we had seen the best of Split. Back at the windy marina we bounced through dinner on board and another windy, rolly night.
