Adriatic to Ionian

Long trip of 50 hours and over 225 nautical miles from the Dalmatian Islands off Croatia to the Ionian Sea through the Straits of Taranto to our first Greek island of Corfu. The crew and ship performed admirably. Much boat traffic but with the radar and AIS running we were able to steer a course out of harm’s way, particularly at night when large cargo freighters bore down in short order.
Sailed along the Albanian coast where acts of piracy have occurred about ten years ago. I always try to stand clear of the coast at night due to fishing nets which would be impossible to see at night. Plus our pilot book reports that sections of the Albanian coast are still mined!
We needed a 2-3 day weather window to accomplish the trip and the weather forecast delivered. Motored the whole way except an hour. Still smooth seas are much preferred over Med gales!
Three dolphin encounters and small bird landings gave the crew some entertainment. In the end long distance travel by sailing yacht can yield minimal excitement coupled with sleep deprivation. Everyone performed exceedingly well.
Made landfall at the lush green island of Corfu. Docked in a 1,250 yacht marina for only $29 Euros per night. Hot showers and dinner ashore, life is good again.
