We left Aegina at noon and headed to Milos Island which was an 80 mile run. The crew took 3 hour shifts because of very busy boat traffic both cruise ships and freighters. We have an AIS system which identifies the ship, speed and length and their path so we are aware of which boats to look out for but still have to keep an eye for those without the system onboard. The trip took 21 hours and we got to Milos at dawn so were able to view the harbour and the approach to the island. The island is famous for it’s different rock formations and we are harboured in a gigantic volcanic crater.
We scouted around for a scooter rental but couldn’t find one so ended up renting a car for 2 days..we toured the northern part of the island and found where they found Venus De Milos and also a very ancient theatre .We then toured through the catacombs and the ancient village of Plaka where we had an authentic Greek lunch in the only open café. The village was a series of extremely tight narrow roads flanked by houses or walls and was a little difficult to maneuver but Dean did a great job. We then drove up to the north coast with some breathtaking views of the coastline to the northernmost point and then back to the boat. We had chili onboard which turned out surprisingly well since we couldn’t find any chili powder. The next day we still had the car so we toured the southern coast where the volcanic stones are extremely impressive. Absolutely gorgeous deserted beaches and stunning coloured cliffs made an enjoyable ride. We still have very high winds so off to Santorini by ferry tomorrow til Monday
