Last minute scrambling after work to batten down the boat and clear off any loose articles from the deck..... toping up the water tanks....... making sure that we have enough fuel and propane.... etc.... etc.... This business of getting ready for a hurricane is for the birds! We have been helping other boats in the docks get ready too in our small way. A boat from the UK had put in here to ride out the storm and asked if they could borrow a couple of our ball fenders to help them stave off damage if they twist on their slip... all day at work I was making dock lines, mooring bridles and offering help and encouragement to people making last minute preparations to their boats.
Barb and I will be spending the night, tomorrow and the next night aboard so hopefully if anything happens either to Nelleke or to one of the other boats around us, we should be able to take some action, whether or not it will be successful is another matter.
We are both going to take real Hollywood showers tonight before we turn in just in case tomorrow the power goes out. The batteries are fully charged and we should be able to use the wind generator and the solar panels if necessary, the boat has been made as stable as we can under the circumstances, we have loads of water and we have food in storage and means to cook it so we are as ready as we can possibly be short of somehow spiriting her away to someplace without Bill.
We'll report on how we made out and maybe even have some photos.
Wish us luck!
