Projects getting completed and friends coming to visit

We are madly trying to get jobs done and tools out of the way. Why the sudden burst of energy? Our friends Alan and Heather from Moonlight Maid are coming to visit for the weekend. We prepared for the cruising lifestyle with them on the same training courses and subsequently sailed with them down to Newport in preparation for the NARC 2009. Whereas equipment failures caused us to withdraw, Moonlight Maid continued across to Bermuda and subsequently onward to St Martin. We linked up again with them on our return to Canada in the spring of 2011 as they were bringing Moonlight Maid home to Halifax as were we with Nelleke. We’re going to give them a tour of Shelburne and Queens Counties. Who knows? Maybe they’ll jump down here too.
The scramble did get a few of my ongoing projects close to completion. The first of the bookshelves is now done, less the cupboard doors, and has 4 coats of varnish and once dry will be put into place in the living room. Barb has painted the wall and baseboard behind where it will go so we should be ready for it. I have also put together most of the mantelpiece for the fireplace. All that is not completed is the cap and the final sanding, staining and varnishing. I might get the cap done tomorrow before our visitors arrive but there is no way that we’ll get the varnishing done since it will take at least four coats with an eight to ten hour drying time in between. That’s a nice job to do around other jobs next week.
We are planning to go to an estate auction on Saturday with the hopes of licking up a couple more carpets. The one we went to last weekend was a bust. Note to self: any time that you see an auction described as auction new furniture, it probably isn’t worth the trip. This one might not be either but it will be an excuse to travel around with Alan and Heather.
