Settling in for the long winter’s sleep
Got a fair old amount done since my last post. First, and most importantly, we finally made a trip into Halifax to get Nelleke put to bed for the winter. Seeing her up on the hard, all lonely and everything is always quite sad for me. We still have one or two little things to do but at least I can rest easy knowing that if we get a major cold snap there should be no damage done.
Work has been continuing on the house and I pretty much have the fireplace finished and Barb has started the varnishing of the vestibule pillars at the entrance to the dining room. At some point over the next couple of weeks the power company is coming in to put a pole into the back yard and we have been trying to research where the water and sewer goes into the apartments in the back yard. I think that I have it figured out but I will have to be ready in case they put the pole and anchor in on top of them. Fingers tightly crossed! Tomorrow I will begin to finish construction of the second bookshelf and the corner shelves for the fireplace. Barb will most likely begin painting the walls of the hallway and into the living room.
I am working on the MOHO trying to see if the problems with the water heater, the propane cabin heater and the fridge are due to a bad ground connection at the battery. In doing so I have had to put new faucet connections in for the galley sink. It reminds me of working in cramped spaces on the boat except I am not worried about being trapped while it sinks if I do something really stupid like break off one of the sea cocks.
To save some money and make things more personal I am trying to make as many of the Christmas presents for family members as possible. Since they all read the blog I won’t mention what they are going to be but suffice to say I have made the first batch. There are some small financial savings but they are fun to do and the gifts will be much more personal at the end of the day. With her knitting etc Barb has always been able to do this and now with the workshop, so can I.
Turns out there is a really active Christmas Season here in Shelburne, with events ranging from Theatre productions to house tours, and from basketball tournaments to the arrival of Santa Clause with a parade in his honor. Not allowed to get dull here!
