Parties and other stuff

As I have mentioned in a previous post, Shelburne, our new pied-a-terre, is a veritable social hotbed. When we moved here we had been concerned that the winters might drag a wee bit, but nothing could be further from the truth. So far there have been five party invites just for the month of December. As we were away we had to decline one of them but so far there was one last night - an Osprey Arts Centre Volunteer Appreciation Night party, which we attended and had a great time (it never ceases to astound me how much real talent there is in this small community, we have been invited out for Christmas Day Dinner; we are hosting an albeit small soiree on Boxing Day; there is another party on the 28th and a New Years Eve function at the yacht club.
The volunteer night thing last night was excellent. Musician, singers, songwriters, classical musicians, folk, country, they all were there and the quality of performance was of concert caliber. There was even a troop of belly dancers, if you can believe that. There one young lady playing songs of her own composition in the country style who is someone to watch. If she keeps it up, watches her voice and doesn’t chuck it all to love or something gooey like that, I would expect to see her in the Grand Ol’ Opery someday.
We are building up our stock of hooch for the holidays. Wouldn’t that be a great title for a new Christmas song?
Papa went out shoppin’ yesterday,
To spend all his money in the annual way
To load up the cupboard
And weigh down the shelves
To buy rum, wine and whiskey
For good Christmas elves
(Chorus) Hooch for the holidays, hooch for the holidays.
Etc.
As a side note. Could I draw your attention to the right of the blog page just under the photo of Nelleke? There you will see a URL highlight called View Complete Profile. If you click on that and scroll down to near the bottom of the left you will see something neat. If you haven’t done this before you will see what is called a Flag Counter. This is something that our friends from Silverheels III shone us on to. It basically counts the unique visitors to our site and tracks which country they hail from. The basic version is free if you are interested in adding it to a site of your own. I wish that we had this in place when we started the blog as it is what it is showing us is not only the regional demographics of our readers but also, when you compare it to the other, more basic counter on the main page, it gives us an idea of how many of you keep coming back. To me this is very gratifying. I am a basic common or garden variety blabbermouth and appreciate an audience. If you go to their blog (hover over the friends pictures on the lower right side of our main page until you see Silverheels and then click on it) you’ll see that they also mention the flag counter.
