.....and I suppose that I shouldn’t be surprised at what small town municipal politics is like, but I can’t help it. I am! This place has been dwindling over the last 40 years from a town of 5000 to one that can’t quite muster up 1700 souls. And yet the old guard here thinks that all is well continuing as they have been for the last four decades. These old folks seem to live in a nirvana where someone (most likely the provincial or federal government) will suddenly realize that this town is most deserving and will dump a whole lot of money in our laps. The idea of getting on with it and doing it ourselves seems to be totally foreign.
Sigh! ........Bigger Sigh!! .......Biggest Sigh!!!
I think that I should get my mind into the “who-gives-a-crap” mentality. That way at least my stomach won’t be so upset as it is these days.
Anyway, back to more pleasant topics........ the weather has reached a point where I think that I can seriously look at working on the boat and getting her ready for a launch in early May or at least as soon as the docks are in at the club. Once she is back “home” I will be in a better position to get at some of the projects and now that I have a great workshop in the house there are a lot of the carpentry projects that I can get underway as well. We are definitely going to take this summer to gunkhole around our neighbourhood here but with all of the stuff that I have mentioned about work I am more and more interested in getting away earlier next year. In fact we might even take the summer of 2014 off here in order that we can make more extended local trips. With climate change and the fact that over the last two years there has been significant weather events in New England during the late summer we won’t be heading south into the heat until early fall at the soonest, but there are still a number of spots that we’d like to cruise and spend some time on the hook. These aren’t necessarily places that are new to us but they are places that we feel that we haven’t spent enough time visiting.
Barb has been into the club over the last few days interviewing people for the Assistant Manager’s position. It is another of the small dramas in town since the Past Commodore wants the job and doesn’t seem to understand that our bylaws clearly state that a member cannot serve as a full time employee let alone a member of the Committee of Management. I don’t envy the present Commodore his job of getting
