Lazy day......

A very lazy, wasting time kind of day. As you may remember we are rather wasting time waiting for Peri's travel permit and trying to do so in as many places that don't cost too much or even anything and this is a nice place except for the fact that there is nowhere to provision or even get water. Still, tomorrow we begin our southward journey once again but we only have ten miles this time.
Today we hauled the outboard up on deck and changed the engine oil and the lower unit lubricating fluid. Not an easy task on the boat but you do what you have to. Once that was done we took a little putt all over the anchorage an discovered that half of the shoreline is the State Park which is accessible but you are constantly looking for a ranger who may or may not ask you for a fee. We went over to a spot where they allow camping and rent out cabins and snuck some water from one of the campsite standpipes. Technically I guess we were stealing as when we called the Park office they told us that there was no water available but when you gotta have and are desperate for water for cooking or coffee or to mix with your rum so you do what you have to. The other half belongs to a college that teaches hospitality and they have go away signs up everywhere.
We have discovered that the 56' at Julia Tuttle is at mean high water so we are planning to get there as close to low tide as we can. There is a 2-3' tidal range here so that should give us a little comfort factor. And then on to around mile marker 1090 where the Dinner Key Marina is located where we are hoping to pick up a mooring and where we will wait out the delivery of Peri's documents. Barb has discovered that the request has been delivered so now it's a matter of how quickly the wheels of bureaucracy grind onward.
I have also come to the conclusion that my tendency on this trip to try at all costs to save money is being very self defeating. Not to say that we need to spend money on restaurants and marinas willy nilly, but there should be some stuff to do in each of the places that we visit. For instance, we can hang out on beaches, we can go snorkelling and diving, we can take photos, I can paint (I haven't drawn one line so far on this trip I have been so preoccupied with other things) and loads of other things. Any of that will get me out of my funk. Once in the Bahamas we can start and of course there will be a visit with our friends Barry and Marcia in Hope Town and the visit from our son Chris to kick start things.
