Getting ready for the next jump....
....of 56 nm. That should be a full day, if we can average 6.5 knots we should make the trip in 8.6 hours, so if we leave at 0800 we should be into the eastern end of the canal by dusk and catch the assist from the ebb current. That might get us to Onset where I am familiar enough with the channel to brave it in the dark especially with Barb on the bow with a flashlight. We can go in and anchor for the night and, hopefully, pick up a mooring the following morning. Then we are likely to be there for several days, at least until Wednesday.
Today in Rockport I did some of my Christmas shopping for my crew mates. There are enough places that I could get a number of gifts that won’t take up too much space and will give me something to give to Barb Christmas morning and even a few things to put into a small stocking.
The ladder climb at half tide can be a problem when I am trying to pull the boat in and thought that Barb had said that she had crossed the gap to the boat. Next thing I hear is a scream for help and I am fighting to get the boat in closer to the wall. All ended well. No one fell in but my name was Mudd for a while. Otherwise the day went very well with the shopping and speaking to the Harbor Master who kindly agreed to come down tomorrow AM at 0730 to help us get clear of the docks and on our way. That means that I will be up and about at 0530 to prepare breakfast and get Ghillie ashore for a quick walk before we set off. Nelleke is in fine shape, the crew is in good spirits and the weather gods are forecasting 10 knots of wind from the stern for the whole day. Of course I will be up at midnight to do another download of the weather to make sure.
