A day for travel to Richmond

Oh boy! Another wild old night last night!
It started up during our evening with Maury and Ginger and throughout we were constantly getting up to check out their boat and others in the marina. Throughout the night it only got more intense. We have a buckshee fender board rigged between us and the major pylon consisting of a piece of 2 x 8 and two of our large fenders. As it is not a permanent solution each of the three pieces is independently hung from the side of the boat and as a result during the night I had to get up twice during the storm to rearrange them as they had "drifted" apart. Nelleke never rubbed on the pylon, but the 2 x 8 was rubbing against her which isn't too desirable either. Everyone here had a fender board or two made out of a piece of 4 x 4 fitted with some rubber attachments to rub against the boat that were clearly made for it. I really need to get something like that for Nelleke since the temporary fix that I have in place is obviously just that - temporary. Still, we are all safe and sound this morning though and getting ready for our trip to Richmond. Our friend Maury has kindly volunteered to drive me to the Hertz dealership which is a good thing since although it is only about 2 miles away as the crow flies, it is closer to 10 by road as it is clear on the other side of an air strip. He also warned me that I will have to clear into the air terminal as if I am getting on a flight so be careful about what I have in my pockets - no rigging knives, for example.
I'll be heading over there after walking the dog and having a shower to get the car as early as possible so we can run some errands before heading out to Richmond and Cliff and Diane's place. That means that today's blog will be short and sweet, but I'll make up for it tomorrow with a report on our visit.
Some excitement over on the other side of the Bay by Old Fort Comfort - there was great clouds of smoke heading skyward and an obvious extensive area of flame at the bottom. I'm not sure what they do at Fort Monroe, but I'm pretty sure that it's not damage control. In fact, when we drove over to Richmond we went right past the site and the first responders were still there dealing with the embers of a major fire in an RV. There was little left of the vehicle other than a burnt out shell so we can only hope that the passengers got out safely.
I had forgotten how much fun it is to drive in the US, passing historical sites that you have heard about in school like Jamestown, Williamsberg and places like that. We arrived after a leisurely drive and had a twosome shower in a huge two faucet shower stall and helped her to get ready for Cliff's party.
