Happy Boxing Day, everyone!
This morning we got up and had our Christmas Day breakfast, one day late. Allow me to recommend a sort of Eggs Benedict or Egg McMuffin with crab cakes instead of sausage parry and Hollandaise sauce instead of cheese. They are really good, if I do say so myself!
Kayt brought down my Christmas gift from my parents, a series of dome lights for the boat which I will be installing sometime today, but first we will be going for a cruise about St. Petersburg to show Kayt the sights. We are working on a list of "to dos" that she will have to pick from bit we have about 14 days during which we can do them. I imagine that for some of them she would like to simply veg out at a beach. She informs us that if she doesn't "come back to Halifax with a bitchin' tan" she won't be returning at all.
After breakfast we went off to one of the serious malls in St Petersburg to do some shopping, or rather Barb and Kayt did. I went along for the ride. They didn't last as long as they thought that they would as about a hour after they arrived the crowds of crazies arrived in droves and they begged for mercy. Instead we took Kayt along Beach Blvd in Gulfport to show her the stores and have lunch. She wasn't impressed by the beach, but then, we didn't expect her to be, but she did like Pia's Trattoria. We also found out that the servers here are paid about half of minimum wage and therefore survive on tips. Kayt used to work in food service all through university and college and still does occasionally to make some extra cash, but in NS they get paid minimum wage at least, plus tips. She was shocked.
We also made arrangements to go on a kayak tour tomorrow and met the guy who gives them. He impressed Kayt when she asked him, "Are there going to be alligators? Don't lie to me!" and his response was, "Do you want to see alligators? Don't lie to me!" He gave as good as he got and it looks like we are going to have fun. We'll do our best to take some photos to post in the gallery.
Barb outdid herself with our Christmas Dinner - turkey with all the trimmings. Our friend Paul arrived about three thirty and we spent part of the afternoon in the cockpit until the sun drove us below for dinner.
