We got off today with intentions of getting to Beaufort before the bad weather that we are hearing about in the forecasts sets in. We are supposed to be getting very high winds and thunder and lightning again and for that I would rather be somewhere comfortable where there is no problem to get the dog ashore for a walk, and right now that means Beaufort.
Our day was supposed to give us 10-15 knot winds on the beam and although we got the beam winds they were only about 5 knots with occasional 30 minute blows of the promised amount, so we ended up motor sailing for pretty much all of the way. We made pretty good time though with favourable currents allowing us to average about 7 knots which was enough to give us a bow wave that would occasionally interest schools of passing dolphins that would come over to play in our wake before getting too bored and moving on to bigger boats.
We arrived at the Downtown Marina at about 1630 and tied up in very strong winds and current which have all died out as I write this.
We did have one piece of bad news tonight. I think I have discovered the problem with my house bank and it is something that I can only blame on myself. Back in Marathon I tried a fast one and hooked the 12 volt appliances to the lower half of the 24 volt battery bank. What this has done is mess with the charge controller's little computer brain and when charging the batteries is over charging the upper 12V in an attempt to get the lower 12 charged. I am going to re-install the 24/12 inverter tomorrow and I just hope that it isn't too late and that I have irreparably damaged the 4 batteries. Those puppies are expensive to replace.
