Sunday Reflection

20 August 2017 | O. Erimoupolis
Monica
We woke in Kato Zakros and realized we needed to get off the boat and tour the Minoan Palace ruins and take a hike down the gorge know as Dead’s Gorge. We realized our goal this trip was to sail as much as we could and do some visiting and touristing. Last night we realized we have yet to enjoy the relics and wonders of the island. After devotions and coffee at the beautiful sunrise we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast.
We unhooked the dinghy and went to shore. It was an amazing sight to see these ruins that were from a period of history we know so little about. Sophisticated society with buildings, economic structure, language, and religion. We then walked through the Gorge of the Dead where many tombs were discovered in the caves that line the Gorge.
At 1300 we weighed anchor, said goodbye to the sheep in the hills, and moved on to our next anchorage. We had some stiff wind as we came into O. Ereimoupolis. We let out a lot of chain and set the anchor alarms. The wind wiped through the night with gusts above 20 knots. We slept well despite the wind.
