Niue, and unexpected delight

Niue is an unexpected delight, super friendly people and stunning landscapes. The island is an upraised coral cap on a volcano that never made it above the surface but pushed coral 60m above as it grew. The landscape could be the setting for a Vin Diesel movie...dramatic and harsh coral outcroppings and dramatic caves, covered in lush tropical beauty. The harbour is unprotected, we had to lift the dingy on a crane to come ashore. The Niue yacht club has installed 20 moorings in 100' of water to welcome cruisers, which was delightful. We are now card carrying members of the Niue Yacht Club! The islanders welcomed us with open arms, a trusting car rental that involved only the handing of keys back of forth, and a great welcome party at the high commissioners residence from New Zealand. It was a great stay, and I'm sure we'll come back some day!
