Standing on the rim of an active volcano!

Tanna, Vanuatu has the world's most accessible active volcano. There are few countries on Earth that would even let you hike up to the very rim of an active volcano and peer down into the cauldron at the spewing lava. Our safety brief consisted of " if you see Lava coming down at you, step aside". We saw the spot where a Japanese tourist was buried by a large lava rock falling on him.
It was an amazing experience that you can't really describe in words or in pictures. Feeling the ground rumble beneath your feet as a shower of molten lava rocks, some the size of a school bus, spew as high as a skyscraper in front of you. We stayed on the rim until after sunset and just watched the show, captivated by each small and large eruption. It was like sitting by a galactic camp fire! Who gets to do this?
