Oh Penang!
31 January 2016
Anchored off the Jerejak jetty on the east coast of the island. Fishing boats & nets !!!!! We used this anchorage on our way north. Easy access to the local eateries on the shoreline. Lots of lights & music till late. The Malaysian time zone (same as Perth) means that the sun is not up until 0730h so our body clocks are all out of whack!
Met Susanne & Jerry 'Thylacines' at Queens Bay Mall and had a lovely lunch. The mall is alive with red & gold decorations and the clothing store windows are all dressed with red clothes, ready for Chinese New Year celebrations. These are huge in Penang and we are considering staying here till the 8th (another week) to observe them. Nick tripped on the uneven gutter on our walk back & hurt his left arm. Lots of ice packs to reduce the swelling.
So had a quiet day next day but went back to Queens Bay Mall to have dinner at the same restaurant. The salmon dish was worth another go! Decided to head off in the morning and forgo the fireworks here.
Up anchor at first light and slowly motored towards the bridge, keeping a good lookout for nets & boats. Passed under the bridge and on our way.
