Vava'u
17 July 2010 | Tonga
The Richardsons and Sloans had a fabulous time on board Nika. We thank the Dransfields for their great hospitality. We joined Nika in Vava'u which are the northern islands in Tonga, renowned as great cruising grounds. There are many good anchorages with coral reefs meaning flat sailing, beautiful blue waters and plenty of snorkeling. The kids had a great time playing, paddling, driving the dinghy, swimming and even a trip up the mast! We saw rays, a turtle, stonefish, lionfish, lots of small reef fish, sea snake, trumpet fish and more. We caught a tuna for dinner and were lucky enough to see some whales. The swim through into Mariner's cave was great fun. The Tongan's were friendly and it was fun to meet the other cruisers. It's a whole community afloat. Some great dinners on the boat and ashore with the local school girls dancing. Many thanks.
