Taking a breather ...

Happy 240th Birthday, America
Growing up in New England, I took for granted just how lovely a summer’s morning can be in Massachusetts. It’s comfortably cool and everything smells clean and fresh. Spider webs glisten with morning dew and it’s just great to be alive and breathe in the new day. Being back at Lin’s house conjures up wonderful childhood memories of summer mornings past. And this is not just any morning … it’s the 4th of July, the best holiday of the summertime in the USA.

A Cruiser Christmas and International Feast
With much help from the cruising community and a great deal of Christmas spirit, we managed a fantastic dinner and party for 60 on Christmas Day. The cooking went off without a hitch...thanks to our chef, Eric on "Nataraja". The clubhouse was rearranged and decorated, complete with centerpieces for each table comprised of local greens and wildflowers by Aly on "Loon 3". Some folks greeted and directed, some served, some mashed up kilos of potatoes, some made sure there was hot water for coffee, some pre-cut and arranged the dessert table (and guarded it till after dinner). Everyone was in a festive spirit and lent a hand...a sure way to insure success.
On the home front, David pronounced the engine "done" with caveats that there were still several boat tasks to be completed, but he was feeling confident that the engine, transmission, steering, autopilot and new day tank were in operating condition. Our slip rent is up on 27 December so we've got just one more day to get ready for departure. Luckily, the Bay of Islands has lots and lots of anchorages and most are nearby. We won't be going far.
