Another windy hole
31 October 2011 | Livadhi, Serifos
We decided to make a move and headed out this morning aiming to reach Paros by the end of the day, a distance of about 45 miles. We had a good sail down the coast of Kithnos, making 6 knots in about 20 knots of wind. As we rounded the bottom of Kithnos to head up to Paros the wind increased to 25 knots, reaching 30 knots with some gusts. We reassessed our destination and decided to head for Serifos instead as we would be arriving in Paros after dark and the approach isn't straightforward at night. We continued to make good speed and reached Livadhi at lunch time. We've dropped the anchor just off the beach and are heading ashore to have a mooch around shortly.
Unfortunately the wind looks set to pick up again over the next couple of days so we could be stuck again - at least we can replenish our supplies here and there's someone else to talk to, even if it is only to order a coffee!
(Update 021111)
We went out for dinner (expensive as usual, where else in the world does one salad, one pizza, two beers and two glasses of wine cost 31 quid?) and then headed back to the boat. We were able to restock with some salad but Serifos is a small island with not much there so we decided we'd wait until we got somewhere bigger for a decent resupply. The weather was looking good for the next day so we planned to get up early and sail to Paros.
