Since my last post the weather really has thrown some challenges at us.
Ah no, seriously ...
Winds got up to 40kts, which resulted in increasingly huge waves as the sea picked up. We had literally to carve our way through the mountainous sea. It was difficult enough during the day, but at night, in darkness as there was no sight of the moon, it was next to impossible.
Added to this have been some great lightening storms, together with some of the heaviest rain we have ever witnessed.
We sailed through with no damage though, just a lot of tired heads and wet clothes.
Yesterday the wind calmed down, giving us some respite, and by 1700 the clouds parted, and we had a beautiful sunset.
As we crossed the mid Atlantic point, we all celebrated by jumping into the ocean for a swim. While I was getting out however, the dinghy was tossed over by a wave, and I was unceremoniously dumped head first into its propeller. I received a nice gash over my eye which was promptly bandaged up.
Scarred for life? __________ Hey, look at my scar! !
So, all is fine.
Yeah baby - war wound!
After the swim, we continued in festive mood with a lovely meal, and a very refreshing, well earned beer!
At the moment, the wind is strong out there again, and the forecast is for it to build and build over tonight and tomorrow.
I spend a lot of time wondering what my family are doing back home. I only get to email out home every couple of days, so when I receive a reply I cherish it. It is amazing how much a few words can make you feel. I so look forward to every email. It was my partner that gave me the encouragement to do this trip, knowing that she would be left with our two children. I will be forever grateful about that.
We are expecting to arrive at the Azore islands on Friday morning, all going well, and I'll be posting again from land, hopefully in a couple of days.
T on the sea.
