Still Up In the Air!

24 March 2009 | Peakes Yacht Services Yard
The Crew /33 deg C, Brilliant Sunshine
Yes we haven't moved an inch but remain suspended above the ground trying to outdo David Blaine! We might just win this one as it has been 5 weeks now since we were lifted. We are awaiting approval from Admiral Yachts for some of the outstanding issues and then hopefully the repair work can commence. Admiral Yachts have appointed a local agent to help sort the various contractors out. It's not going to be a quick fix and so we are resigning ourselves to the fact that we will not get back in the water to do any serious cruising before the start of the hurricane season. Once the work is finished we will put Oceans Dream back in the water for sea trials and then lift her here in Trinidad for the hurricane season.

Recently we have been entertained watching a fleet of trawlers coming in for refit. These are long liners from Taiwan with a crew of about 15. They turn these around in a couple of days and the picture shows one making her way back to the water in the travel lift. The guys who run the travel lift are hugely skilled at lifting these large vessels and manouevering them around the yard. The trawlers are supported at sea by a mother ship that processes the fish and takes it back to Taiwan!

We've been thinking that once the work begins we will hire a car and explore the island a bit more. Really really need to get out of this yard. One of the problems is that everything gets covered in a film of dust, no matter how many times you wash the decks down. On Sunday we went around in the dinghy to Scotland Bay for a picnic. It's a beautiful well protected bay and is a favorite place for many Trinidad families to go to at the weekend.

Until work get's under way it is difficult to plan anything in too much detail as we need to be on hand to let people onto Oceans Dream and answer queries but we are really looking forward to getting out and stretching our legs.

The crew of Oceans Dream send you our best wishes. Adrian and Jackie. See updates below for more pictures.
