Magic Roundabout in Mooloolaba

09 December 2008 | Mooloolaba, Australia
Chris Bone
The photo is of some ladies in Karkar Island, PNG drying coral for use with beetle nut. This of course steadily erodes the reef but it illustrates the problems in developing countries. She has no other way to make a living.

Thanks very much to www.oceanswatch.org members Anders and Elizabeth, Magic Roundabout is safely in Mooloolaba being looked after by Jessica Watson and her family. The plan now is for Jessica to sail Magic Roundabout to Whangarei, New Zealand together with an experienced skipper. Jess will be doing all the work though:) as this is training for her youngest around the world attempt later this year. www.youngestround.com
Other OceansWatch members are also out there doing amazing things! James Wharram and Hanneke Boon are sailing engineless 38' Wharram Catamarans on the Lapita trip from Bohol in the Philippines to Tikopia in the Solomons see http://blog.mailasail.com/lapita/15
Back in New Zealand I'm franticly busy trying to update the website, organise next year's trips and 1,000,001 other things.
